Corporate News:

azhearing.com
now selling southwestern art!

Running out of gift ideas? We've just added a beautiful collection of southwestern art to our web site. We are now selling sandstone clocks and coasters by Stone Dial™ and Thirstystone™. Eventually we would like to expand and include other items, such as oil paintings and pottery of the Wild West. Visit our Art Gallery and choose a gift for yourself or a loved one! We're no longer selling this item!

We also carry a groovy selection of talking and vibrating watches, alarm clocks, amplified telephones, assistive listening systems, and other products for the hard of hearing. Buy your favorite Assistive Listening Device online and have it delivered to your door before Christmas.

Have a Happy Holiday Season!

Azhearing.com goes 'global'

In an effort to expand our global reach, we are in the process of revamping the Spanish and Portuguese translations of our web site. For other languages (such as French, German, and Italian) we're still in the machine translation mode.

When Portuguese and Spanish are completed, we will have covered most of the Americas, Spain, Portugal, some Portuguese-speaking countries in Africa, as well as those nations around the world that speak English as first, second, or foreign language.  Judging from the number of inquiries and orders we've been getting from overseas, the effort seems to be paying off.

The translation enhancement has not changed the look or the organizational structure of our web site, except that the pages for each language come in a different color -- blue for English, yellow for Spanish, and green for Portuguese.

Taking good care of your hearing aids
- by "Mr. Helix"

Moisture is your hearing aid's number one enemy. Moisture attacking your hearing aids can happen in several ways. For in-the-ear (ITE) hearing instruments, moisture in the wax of the ear canal gets into the receiver end of the hearing aids, taking away their power. Another source of moisture is perspiration, and this is usually more of a problem in the behind-the-ear (BTE) hearing aid. A third cause of moisture is the weather, i.e., humidity in the air.

The best way to remedy the problem of moisture is to have a dry aid kit, which normally costs anywhere from $5 to $15. If you're having trouble with moisture, it is also a good idea to have your hearing aids professionally inspected and cleaned. A hearing aid clean-up doesn't cost much. Either way, you can save a whole lot of money by extending the life of your hearing aids.

Advice for Longer Life Hearing Aids:

  • Remove the hearing instruments from your ears before showering, bathing, or swimming.
  • Do not leave your aids in the bathroom (this is a very humid area).
  • Dry any perspiration inside and around the ears.
  • Leave the battery compartment open to dry out overnight.

Remember that dampness and condensation can damage the circuitry of your hearing instrument. A dry hearing aid is a happy hearing aid.  :-)

Customer Questions Keep Pouring In

"Mr. Helix" has been very busy lately answering questions from our customers. Some very good inquiries have came up, such as this one from Lizzie Watts:

"My niece is 14 months old and my brother and partner have just been informed that she needs two hearing aids.  She has moderate hearing in both ears.  She is having them fitted this week. Is there any advice you can give to the parents who are finding it very upsetting? Many thanks." -- L.W.

Here's Mr. Helix's response:

"Dear Lizzie:

"Thank you for your inquiry. Hearing loss is not very easy to cope with, especially in the case of infants. I strongly suggest reading an article by Ms. Paula Rosenthal of Hearing Exchange. She speaks from her own experience dealing with hearing loss in the family and provides a list of helpful resources that are available for parents. Her article can be found at http://www.hearingexchange.com/articles/mychild.htm.

Sincerely,

"Mr. Helix"
